So, in honor of Independence Day I'm hosting an interview with an Independent Author! Who is this author? Alyssa Rose Ivy!
Alyssa is the author of the After Glow Trilogy and the upcoming Crescent Chronicles.
1) As an Indie Author, what do you feel is the best part?
The best part of being an author has been meeting so many wonderful readers, bloggers and authors! The best part of being an indie author has been the flexibility. I love being able to set my own schedule, choose my own covers, and write the books that interest me the most.
2) What does your writing process look like? Are you a plotter or a panster?
I’m a mix of both, and the exact make-up changes depending on the book. I like to start with an outline, but I often veer off course—my characters sometimes take me in directions I don’t expect. One thing I have found helpful is having an outline for a series. I need to know where I expect the series to go. I tend to write my first drafts quickly, and then spend twice as long on the revisions and edits.
3) I love the cover of your upcoming novel Flight which is part of your Crescent Chronicles series. What can you tell us about this new series of yours?
Thanks Jennifer! Flight is a mature YA/New Adult paranormal romance set in New Orleans. It takes place the summer before the narrator, Allie, starts college. Allie’s determination to avoid guys is foiled when she meets Levi, who shows her that there’s more going on in the Crescent City then she ever imagined.
4) If you could give any advice to new Indie Authors what would it be?
I’d advise a new indie author to get a good cover and hire an editor. I was lucky enough to find a great editor in the beginning, but I’ve had to tweak my covers along the way.
5) Is there a genre you might like to try writing in someday?
There are lots of genres I’d love to write in. I’m writing in a new genre right now actually, new adult contemporary romance. I’m having a great time with the project and look forward to releasing that book late fall. I also have some great ideas for a post-apocalyptic and a historical fantasy novel, but those stories will have to wait for now.
6) What were the last five books you read?
Between Seasons by Aida Brassington
The Binding by L. Filloon
Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen
Valor (A Greystone Novel) by Taylor Longford
The Foxfire Chronicles: Shadows of Past Memories by Alexandra Lanc
